Sustainable development
According to Francis Estrada during a discussion at the Bulong Pulungan media forum at XO 46 Bistro Filipino, it’s crucial to raise the standards of good corporate governance to accelerate a company’s sustainable development.
The former president of the Asian Institute of Management explained, “Good governance promotes accountability, transparency and fairness. It aids in nation-building and accelerates development by attracting foreign investments.”
Estrada was joined by Jesus Estanislao, founder of the Institute of Corporate Directors (ICD), who shared his insights about corporate governance among public limited companies. Based on the 2013-2014 Asean Corporate Governance scorecard, the Philippines has dramatically improved since 2012—but, it continues to lag behind some other countries in Southeast Asia.
Estanislao declared, “It’s governance at the personal level that makes a vital difference.”
