“Thank You” is a response that usually makes the recipient happy.
Not this time.
Social media went on a frenzy early Sunday when the hashtag #NaBigbangKa zoomed atop the Philippines’ trending list.
Two days after K-pop group Big Bang had its “MADE” concert in Manila, Filipino VIPs—the group’s fan club name—went to social media to express their “hurt” over the group’s simple “Thank You.”
After the concert, leader G-Dragon posted on Instagram a floral crown light stick photo with the caption: “Thank you for tonight.”
Hashtags included: “GN #VIP in #PHILIPPINES #BIGBANG #MADEWORLDTOUR IN #MANILA”
No trouble there.
Bitterness only erupted when G-Dragon posted a picture after their concert in Jakarta, Indonesia, last Saturday where caption read: “BESTSHOWEVER #BIGBANG #MADEWORLDTOUR IN#JAKARTA WE LOVE YOU #VIP IN#INDONESIA TURNTUP”
Filipino fans felt salt rubbed in their wounds after band member T.O.P. deleted his Instagram post about Manila, and re-uploaded the same photo with a caption related to Jakarta.
Despite the jealousy, Filipino fans decided to make fun of the pain by posting “feels,” or “hugot” quotes, and memes on social media, with some referencing famous TV and movie lines.
