SUSAN TULIN, housewife: “With a string of hit movies under her belt, whether she’s paired with John Lloyd Cruz, Coco Martin or Piolo Pascual, Sarah Geronimo is on a roll and is undoubtedly the most successful star of her generation.
“She endears herself to the public because of her honesty on ‘The Voice.’ My fondest wish for dear Sarah is to settle down with a partner she deserves. It’s high time she prioritizes matters of the heart.”
Other notes:
Teofilo Mangubat, media observer: “NUT’s notes on local TV scriptwriting problems are worth repeating. But, I must admit I sometimes don’t know whether to be amused or aghast with Rhed Buenaventura (Liza on ‘Flordeliza’), who’s an otherwise engaging child actress.
“In one episode, she walked out of a discussion among adults. ‘Where are you going?,’ one of them asked. ‘Saan pa, e ‘di sa kuwarto ko. Matutulog ako para paggising ko, masasabi natin na ang lahat ng ito’y masamang bangungot lamang,’ she riposted with a raised eyebrow!
“On ‘Pangako Sa ‘Yo,’ even the skilled Jodi Sta. Maria couldn’t survive the cringe-inducing dialogue she was given in an iconic scene: She vowed revenge as she blurted out the archaic line, ‘Saksi ko ang langit…!’ —Very Scarlet O’Hara!
“We can foresee the show’s unimaginative scriptwriters ending the series with Eduardo telling Amor and/or Claudia: ‘Prangkahan, irog ko, wala na akong anumang pakialam sa sawimpalad na buhay mo,’ echoing Rhett Butler’s ‘Frankly, my dear, I don’t give a damn’ line. Second-rate, trying hard copycats, indeed.”
Jose Arnold, lawyer: “Violence and godlessness almost reign in these hard times. Thus, it’s a breath of fresh air to watch TV shows that acknowledge God. Thank you, writer Jerry Gracio and the ‘Oh My G!’ team for bringing God back into viewers’ lives. I’m grateful for shows that don’t hard-sell God and religion, but provide us with a venue to seek Him on our own.”
Gina Ablir, student: “Baron Geisler, who often plays bad guys, sometimes figures in unflattering incidents. Is it a case of art imitating life? In his latest ‘viral’ video, he looks like he is under the influ ence (of alcohol)—it looks like one of the scenes from his movies or TV shows. I hope he cleans up his act!”
