Who knew that a few very simple Twitter posts could create such an uproar ? Well, the thing is, singer Rhap Salazar was completely correct in expressing his views on the matter since they are all valid ones. I salute him for his courage, though, even as he knew the immediate backlash he would surely be getting for speaking up. And boy, did he get a lot of it coming from all directions!
This young man has been mercilessly bombarded with harsh criticisms left and right ever since he Tweeted his sentiments with only a few–valiantly, I should say–from the local music industry coming forward in expressing support of his views. Still, they had to be said as this is not a popularity contest for Rhap Salazar.
His observations–glaringly true anyway, but kept mum about–others could not and would not dare openly say lest they upset or tick off the “top brass” that rule the local music industry with an “iron fist.”
However, for all of us music aficionados concerned about the weakened state of the local music industry, we should all praise Rhap Salazar! Again, he had merely expressed his feelings on the “issue” as a singer. No matter how short his statements were, it seems they all hit the mark. Or should I say, unwittingly, his remarks hit the bull’s-eye ?
So, why else let loose the “rushing of the bulls” on Rhap Salazar?
It is surprising to read the impulsive and outraged reactions that have poured in torrents of hateful and personal criticisms from many personalities in the music and showbiz industries. Sadly, a few luminaries in their chosen field whose vengeful and sputtering and angry words were so unbecoming of them given the supposed stature they enjoy in the community that, to me, their own respectability came tumbling down with the cascading words they spewed out on Rhap Salazar.
What Rhap Salazar did is one perfect example when social media are used for a greater good by bringing our attention to what can be corrected (i.e., give the paying public their due by not lip-synching in live concerts) and not only for self-promotion or shameless bragging ! Some people think he did this just to get attention for himself. All this aggressive reaction given to his Tweets is only to muddle the real issue.
Rhap Salazar said them because he felt an obligation to do so as a young singer and he was unable to remain silent any longer when he clearly sees something that is further undermining and casting even more doubt over an industry that he wishes would maintain its integrity.
Why did Rhap Salazar’s Twitter posts create such a “knee-jerk” reaction from everyone?
Simple. Because he had just spoken the truth!
