Celebrity for a cause
BROADCASTER Karen Davila believes that being a prominent TV personality has the responsibility of urging people to support worthwhile causes.
“It’s very important to use my influence [to shore up] social matters that touch me, such as housing, education, children and women. I feel fulfilled that, during my spare time, I’m able to help educate people,” she told Inquirer during the launch of Habitat for Humanity’s four-year social responsibility campaign, “I Build… What Will You Build?” recently.
One of Habitat’s celebrity ambassadors, Karen started as a volunteer. “Then I started to be a home donor and a sponsor. Now I’m [also a member] of the campaign board. We plan to raise funds to build houses for teachers, soldiers, policemen and many others who live in dire conditions,” she said.
Other celebrity ambassadors introduced at the launch were Kris Aquino, Arnold Clavio, Kim Atienza, Derek Ramsay, Matteo Guidicelli, Cris Villonco and Chris Tiu.
Kris, designated nation-builder ambassador, said, “Celebrities should also have a purpose.” She pledged to donated 12 houses in one year, and handed over a check for P540,000—the cost of the first half dozen (at P90,000 each).
For both Karen and Kris, giving families decent homes is also giving back their dignity.

Beliefs, principles and values all start at home.”
