Finding purpose and peace

June 21 is called the International Day of Yoga. Some insights on yoga:

Yoga means union—the oneness and harmonious relationship of the living being with the Supreme Being. It is unity in love, purpose and will. In yoga, there’s liberation from ignorance and illusion. It brings happiness, peace and satisfaction. There’s fulfillment when we find shelter and refuge in our Supreme Friend. Yoga operates on these principles:

Living beings aren’t defined by a physical body or material mind. They are eternal and spiritual sparks of the Supreme Soul.

We will become the Supreme. Some yogis preach that we can meditate and become everything or transform into nothing. We’re just minute sparks, and we’ll never lose our individuality and become the Supreme.

Exercises, poses or asanas are premeditation techniques meant to help discipline the body and mind, so that a person can focus on the Supreme Person. Asanas aren’t synonymous with yoga. You can do yoga even without them.

Meditation is about remembering the Supreme Person’s love. Just as a child fondly remembers her dad, the spirit-soul can likewise lovingly focus her heart and mind on the Supreme, and experience the joy that she yearns for.

By saying, singing or hearing the powerful names of the Supreme, you can get closer to Him!

This world is full of conflict and strife. Yoga achieves that union with the Supreme Being we all seek!
