ABS-CBN apologizes for ‘vulgar’ language in ‘Pangako Sa ’Yo’

The ABS-CBN management has apologized for using what it considers “strong” language in the May 29 episode of the television series “Pangako Sa ‘Yo.”

In a scene during the said episode, Dona Bonita (played by Pilar Pilapil) told her son Eduardo Buenavista (played by Ian Veneracion): “Kung pampalipas-libog lang ‘yan, that’s okay. Go ahead.”

The Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) summoned ABS-CBN executives on Tuesday, saying the “vulgar” dialogue was intended for a mature audience and could be considered an affront to the dignity of women if left unexplained to the show’s young viewers.

The strong-worded dialogue insinuated that “it is okay (for a man) to use a woman for the mere purpose of satisfying (his) fleshly desires even if he is already engaged to marry another woman,” said MTRCB Chair Eugenio Villareal.

The complaint was addressed to ABS-CBN TV production entertainment head Laurenti Dyogi, business unit heads Malou Santos and Des Tanwangco, executive producer Sabrina Prince, production manager Myleen Ongkiko and directors Dado Lumibao and Rory Quintos.

MTRCB said the dialogue was beyond the PG (Parental Guidance) rating it gave to the show.

ABS-CBN said it would coordinate with MTRCB to avoid such incidents from happening again.

“ABS-CBN apologizes for the strong language used in the May 29 episode of ‘Pangako Sa’Yo.’ We recognize our responsibility to our viewers and will work closely with the MTRCB to prevent it from happening again,” ABS-CBN corporate communications head Kane Errol Choa said in a text message sent to INQUIRER.net.

The show is starred by Daniel Padilla, Kathryn Bernardo, Jodi Sta. Maria, Angelica Panganiban and Veneracion. AJH/RC
