Vicarious thrills of young love

/ 03:15 AM June 09, 2015

For hopeless romantics comme moi, young love teams like Gabbi Garcia and Ruru Madrid give us vicarious thrills when we feel like giving up on l’amour.

The cute pair makes GMA 7’s primetime series “Let the Love Begin” such a delight to watch. They serve as a nightly “kilig provider.”

Giddy mode on!

Here’s my tête-à-tête with Ruru and Gabbi.

FEATURED STORIES

Reliable Ruru

What makes your pairing with Gabbi different from other love teams?

We were friends even before we became a love team. We go out, sometimes with our parents. We are really comfortable with each other. What you see on TV is how we are when we’re together.

What effect does Gabbi have on you?

Gabbi is the type of girl who will tell me whatever she wants and she listens to what I tell her. We are honest with our feelings. No pretensions. I think that’s what true friendship is all about. She gives me the feeling that there is always someone there for me who would listen and tell me her thoughts about me.

What do you find hard to understand about girls?

Sometimes, I don’t get the mood swings—sometimes they’re super happy; sometimes they’re suddenly emotional. I don’t understand why they’re suddenly quiet, sometimes.

What’s the toughest part about being a teenager?

Managing your schedule. I want to accomplish a lot but sometimes, it’s hard to manage my time. Maybe it’s part of growing up. I’m idealistic and I have ambition. But I think I need to sort things out and see what I need to prioritize.

What have you learned about relationships from your show?

Our worlds are different here; Gabbi plays a rich girl and I play a poor guy. I guess, in love, there shouldn’t be divisions. And you should fight

for it.

If you could be a woman for a day, who would you want to be and why?

My mom, because she raised us properly. I’m thankful to her for what I am now.

Giddy Gabbi

Which love team is your favorite and why?

DongYan (Marian Rivera and Dingdong Dantes), because they are so sweet and natural onscreen and off. They are so effortless in making their fans happy and thrilled.

What do you find hard to understand about boys?

I find it hard to understand their obsession with video games and basketball.

They would literally trade almost everything, including their precious time, just to play!

What’s the sweetest thing that Ruru has done for you?

I appreciate the little things that he has done for me, like taking me to the movies, and reminding me to get enough sleep before working. He always checks up on me.

Is Ruru boyfriend material or would you rather keep him as a friend?

I can say he is definitely boyfriend material because he is a true gentleman. But we don’t talk about that topic because work is our priority.

Which among your parents’ advice is hardest to follow?

The hardest advice that my parents gave me is to not badmouth anybody, including your enemies and haters. They always tell me if you do not have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all.

What’s the naughtiest thing that you have done?

I sometimes pretend to sleep at night to fool my dad, but I am actually awake surfing and texting under the sheets!
