Trees

June 5 is World Environment Day, and some of our friends are planning to plant fruit trees and herbs to add to the world’s greenery and food supply. They’re our gift to Mother Earth—to nurture and propagate what she has generously shared with us. Some proverbs about trees:

Though a tree grows so high, its falling leaves return to the root.—Malay proverb (Humbly acknowledge our roots and the Original Source from Whom we all come from.)

Keep a green tree in your heart and perhaps a singing bird will come.—Chinese (Let spiritual love grow in your heart, and joy shall spring from within.)

Happy is the man who delights in the law of the Lord. He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and whose leaves do not wither.—Psalms 1:1-3

A seed hidden in the heart of an apple is an orchard invisible.—Welsh (The power of propagation has been set by the Supreme Being.)

Old trees are not to be bent.—German (Wise men cannot be corrupted.)

The oldest trees often bear the sweetest fruit.—German (Mature souls speak the highest truths.)

The best time to plant a tree is 20 years ago; the second best time is now.—African (Don’t waste time. Plant today!)

When something’s wrong with the forest; something is wrong with society. —Zimbabwean (The condition of the environment reflects the condition of the people.)

Birds will flock to a fruitful tree.—Senegalese (Nurturers attract those who are willing to bring goodness to the world.)
