Glaiza de Castro has come a long way from her humble beginnings. She dares to outdo herself by portraying a lesbian in GMA 7’s “The Rich Man’s Daughter.” Not too many actresses would be ready, willing and able to play such a role.
What has the show taught you?
If you’re in love, it’s still love, regardless of orientation.
Would you be open to a same-sex relationship?
As they say, sexuality is fluid. When real love hits you, it’s beyond your control.
What’s the difference between a straight and lesbian relationship?
It doesn’t differ in terms of the kind of responsibilities… or how much devotion one has for the other. You’d think it’s easier for two women because they may have a similar outlook. But it’s not easy, fighting for this kind of love. It takes courage.
How do you and screen partner Rhian Ramos prepare for your tender scenes?
We talk to break the tension. Rhian is the kind of person who is also not afraid to try new things.
When you look back at your struggling days, what do you remember most?
My parents’ struggles. That gave me the strength to work hard.
What’s your advice to newbies in the biz?
That “big break” is a responsibility, a blessing that is given at the right time if we have the right attitude.

Actually it was about my mom. It’s awful when people judge your family.
What’s your dream marriage proposal?
Somewhere abroad.
What are the sad experiences you recall when you have to cry for a scene?
Sad experiences with my ex.
What’s the best love advice you’ve ever heard?
That it’s not a fairy tale; it’s hard work. But it’s always worth it in the end.
What’s more important to you, career or love life?
Depends. Right now, it’s career. It’s hard for me to juggle both. But if I meet the right person, why not?
What’s on your bucket list?
Travel the world. Meet interesting people and learn from them. I want to meet musicians or leaders who’ve inspired me.
I want to go skydiving or ride a helicopter or learn how to ride a bike.
