ENRIQUE Gil thinks his character Xander has shown “unconditional love,” while Liza Soberano says that her Agnes is “too mean

Enrique Gil and Liza Soberano may be getting good reviews for their performances in the popular ABS-CBN series “Forevermore,” but the actors said they do not always agree with their characters’ decisions.

“In Book 2, Xander kept chasing Agnes and was always rejected,” said Enrique, who plays opposite Liza Soberano in the series. “I’m not sure if I could handle the pain, if it happened to me. Xander’s love is unconditional.”

Liza said she disagreed with Agnes for being so “unforgiving” of Xander. She explained: “It seemed Agnes was too mean to Xander. I’ve been playing Agnes for six months so I understand where she’s coming from … That’s what I learned about love. You shouldn’t take a person for granted. You should be able to forgive.”

“Forevermore” will air its finale tonight. Liza and Enrique, collectively known as LizQuen, said they learned a lot from working on the show for over six months.

“Direk Cathy (Molina) taught us acting techniques. It’s really challenging. She would sometimes make me hold back my tears during emotional scenes,” said Enrique.

Liza said: “Direk Cathy is very particular about emotions and facial expressions.”

Much easier

Liza said she has learned “to open up more,” especially during dramatic scenes. “I used to clam up. I’ve also become more grateful. I’ve waited for this break for a long time and I finally got it.”

Liza was earlier seen in the similarly popular 2013 youth series “Got to Believe,” which featured Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla. “I’m grateful to the show and to Direk Cathy. They made Agnes so lovable. I think this show boosted my career. Whenever people see me they are reminded of Agnes.”

The 17-year-old actress added: “Working with Enrique also helped. Before this series, I was a nobody.”

Enrique said the show made him appreciate “the little things. I don’t get to see my family often because we’re stuck on the set for months. That’s why I appreciate my loved ones more.” The series was mostly taped in the upland barangay Sitio Pungayan in Tuba, Benguet, a five-hour drive from Manila.

Asked what they thought made LizQuen a hit among fans, Enrique replied: “It’s different when you do things just for work and if there’s really something special between you and your costar. That’s what the audience sees in our tandem.”

Meanwhile, the Court of Appeals issued an order on May 6, canceling the permits to mine, farm and even to shoot “Forevermore” at the Mt. Santo Tomas forest reserve, location of the fictional community “La Presa.”

However, as of May 20, camera continued to grind on the “Forevermore” set. ABS-CBN management said it was still awaiting “formal communication” from the mayor’s office on the CA order.
