CEBU, Philippines – Comedy Cebu, the first and only Filipino and international point-of-view stand-up comedy group in Cebu founded by Gary Jackson and Iris Montesclaros, is delivering on their promise of cultivating local comedy talent here in Cebu while introducing the city to the international stand-up comedy circuit.

Comedy Cebu practices point-of-view or observational comedy, humor based on universal human experiences and daily life, which is as equally entertaining but different from the pink/drag/insult comedy genre usually performed in most Filipino comedy clubs.

JAMI GONG, founder of the first ever full-time stand-up comedy club in Asia – TakeOut Comedy in Hongkong – and the first ever international Asia comedy festival Hongkong International Comedy Festival, will be visiting Cebu and will be facilitating the workshop for all aspiring comics in Cebu this coming May 21. Gong, a stand-up comic who has already performed for two decades around the world, including Conan O’Brien’s show, will be teaching the fundamentals of the art of point-of-view stand-up comedy, such as comedy writing, public speaking, performing on stage etc.

There will also be special guests in the workshops. The founder of Tokyo Comedy StoreDAVE GUTTERIDGE, and all the way from the US, Comedy Central‘s PAUL OGATA – who has already been on countless prestigious comedy stages and television shows in the US and internationally – will also be imparting their knowledge with the workshop attendees.

Comedy Cebu is providing the workshop for free to encourage everyone in Cebu — regardless of age, race and gender — who is interested in doing point-of-view stand-up comedy, to pursue it. The workshop’s objective is to provide future stand-up comics from Cebu the basic knowledge to develop their skills and confidence as performers, not only as comedians, but also as public speakers. Comedy Cebu aims to scout for more Cebu talents to join their group, help develop their stage skills, and soon enable them to join international comedy festivals in Asia and around the world.

The workshop will be held at The Monastery, 976 Veteran’s Drive, Lahug, Cebu City on May 21st, Thursday, from 5-7PM. There will also be an open mic show — also FREE — following the workshop at the same venue on the same day, happening at 9-11PM, where the workshop attendees also stand the chance to perform onstage with other open mic-ers and Comedy Cebu’s guest international comics.

Limited slots are available for this workshop. Interested attendees are encouraged to sign up by contacting Comedy Cebu at +639052487908 or at [email protected]. Comedy Cebu updates can also be seen on Facebook at www.facebook.com/ComedyCebu and their official website, comedycebu.com. ADVT
