Kris Aquino ‘proud’ of President for delaying Veloso’s execution

FOLLOWING the deferred execution of Mary Jane Veloso, actress and television host Kris Aquino said that she is “proud” of her brother, President Benigno Aquino III.

In an Instagram post on Wednesday, Kris said that for the past days, she kept mum amid criticisms hurled against her brother for allegedly neglecting Veloso’s case.

“I kept quiet w/ the endless attacks against PNoy because that was his reminder to me, but today it is my right & my privilege to say, I am proud of my borther. I am proud of my President,” Kris said.

She said that she prayed for the Holy Spirit to guide her brother in the government’s efforts to spare Veloso’s life.

“I kept quiet & just prayed. Left and right paulit ulit na walang ginawa, walang effort, walang malasakit, patalsikin, walang nagawa si Noynoy (Left and right, people were saying repeatedly that there were no efforts done and that Noynoy should resign),” she said.

“Our whole family prayed, of course for Mary Jane and her family, but I prayed deeply for the Holy Spirit to guide my brother and his government to find a way to spare the life of a fellow Filipino. To find a reason compelling enough for the Indonesian govt to give Mary Jane Veloso a reprieve, and it came because of testimony regarding the greater problem of human trafficking,” she added.

The actress said that the suspension of Veloso’s execution was due to the collective prayer of Filipinos.

Veloso was set to be put to death by firing squad early Wednesday but the Indonesian government made a last minute decision to stop her execution.

The Indonesian government said that the suspension of execution was granted because of the request of Aquino to enable Veloso to testify against her alleged recruiter, Maria Kristina Sergio.

Sergio turned herself in to authorities on Tuesday, hours before Veloso’s supposed execution.
