LOS ANGELES— “Fast and Furious 7” surged ahead of box-office competition for a third straight week, taking in an estimated $29 million to hit $1 billion worldwide. This gives the movie certifiable blockbuster status.
All seven “Fast and Furious” films have brought in a record-breaking $3.39 billion, NBC Universal said.
Slapstick comedy “Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2,” starring Kevin James, debuted in the second spot with $24M.
Another newcomer, the social media horror flick “Unfriended,” took third with $16M, box-office tracker Exhibitor Relations said.
Animated children’s film “Home,” about a space alien forced to flee his own kind, landed the fourth spot with $10.3M. The film, featuring the voices of Rihanna and Jennifer Lopez, has brought in $142.6M overall. AFP
