Wanderland 101: Camp Survival Guide

Article_#4

MANILA, Philippines – If you love going to concerts and are used to watching late night shows, listening to heart-thumping music, and being among a huge crowd, then you’ll easily get the hang of Wanderland. But as much fun as Wanderland can get, it’s not your typical music festival. Sure, the thought of spending the day with Kid Cudi, RAC, Augustana, Youngblood Hawke, The Jungle Giants, Lewis Watson, Hale, SINYMA, Kate Torralba, The Strange Creatures, and Austin must be clogging your arteries with excitement, but wait until you see all the attractions Wanderland has in store for you!

So, in preparation for your extraordinary weekend, grab a pen and paper, and get ready to jot down these Wandercamp survival essentials!

1.    SUNNIES, HATS/CAP, SUNBLOCK, UMBRELLA
Considering that the festival will start at around noon on a summer day (emphasis on the word “summer”), and the venue is a large, open ground, try to protect yourself from the scorching heat of the sun as much as you can. Wanderland is the perfect place for you to flaunt your favorite pair of sunnies and stylish hat. But remember, no pointy umbrellas!

2.    PUT ON YOUR MOST COMFY SHOES
An open ground and a camp adventure will require a lot of walking and even running! So say no to blisters and swollen feet by making a stylish yet comfy pair of shoes your best friend for the day.

3.    COMFORTABLE OUTFITS AND EXTRA CLOTHES
Same goes for the rest of your outfit! Expect a lot of activities that will require you to really move around. You don’t want to miss out on a game just because of what you’re wearing, right? So gear up for team games like step-by-step and tug-o-war as well as solo games like Silly Ducky, Archery, and Sling. Lastly, don’t be afraid to get a bit messy (thus, the extra clothes) from Twig Painting. It’s all worth the sweat and grime when you get rewarded for finishing the Wanderscout’s Mission Guide!

4.    CASH/ATM CARDS
We know that at some point during the festival, you’ll get thirsty and hungry. A lot of fun and dancing will do that. Cash is a crucial part of your Wanderland survival since all the activities and booths require tokens. Having no tokens means no food, drinks, and games for you. Passing out from starvation and going to the first aid station aren’t as fun as partying on the concert grounds.

5.    PROHIBITED ITEMS

Be advised of the prohibited items to avoid unnecessary hassle. Some of these are DSLR cameras (unless you’re a media partner), pointed things, dangerous weapons, packed food, chairs (bring a mat instead!), spiked, studded, or chained clothing and accessories, liquor, and pets. Don’t be a trouble to anyone.

6.    MEET NEW PEOPLE
As big as the Wanderland grounds are, you’ll bump into a lot of strangers, that’s for sure. Be a happy camper and greet everyone with a smile! Making friends with your fellow Wanderscouts will have its perks in terms of camp survival and team games. Follow up your friendship on social media, and who knows? Maybe you guys will end up going together to the next music festival in town!

7.    WANDERBUDDIES
Who could possibly survive a music festival without a friend? It’s much more memorable and fun when you have someone to share it with!

There you have it, the basics of Wanderland survival. The rest of your journey lies in your hands. Just remember to always be prepared for whatever comes along and go by the rules to fully experience the one of a kind phenomenon that is Wanderland.
