Sometimes, it just takes a passionate individual to bring people together for a common cause. It happened recently when lawyer Ferdinand “Joy” Rojas, acting chair of the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO), gathered members of established artist groups to showcase their artworks in “Art for a Cause.”
The exhibit will be held on May 2-4 at the LRI Art Gallery, 210 Nicanor Garcia st., Bel-Air ll, Makati City. It moves over to The Medical City lobby on May 8-22. The project is an undertaking of the Saturday Group, which raises funds for diverse causes. This year’s recipients are indigent children awaiting liver transplants at The Medical City, whose team of surgeons is led by Vanessa de Villa.
The Saturday Group will be anchored by Lydia Velasco and current club president Migs Villanueva, Anna de Leon, Buds Convocar, Buddy Ching, Hermes Alegre, Roel Obemio, Omi Reyes, Aner Sebastian, Francis Nacion, Jaime Gubaton, Gerrico Blanco, Norlie Meimban, Carlo Magno, Ross Capili, Jonathan Dangue and Herbert Pajarito.
As guest artist/photographer, I will present my portfolio, featuring Batanes. Since 2006, my regular photo sessions in the north have helped transform the province into a major tourist destination. Rojas, the exhibit’s prime mover, will be showing his digital artworks and tribal-themed abstractions.
