A good friend shared with us a very enlightening Chinese proverb: Choose a habit; develop a character and create a destiny.
Here are some proverbs from our Filipino culture on what character is all about, contained in the book “Proverbs” compiled and edited by Damiana Eugenio:
A good character is like the sun or the stars which shine at night, making it like day.
A good character is the most valuable of all.
A man’s character is revealed by his speaking.
A man’s character is manifested by his actions.
A man with a bad character is like a boat without a sail.
A man’s character is what he leaves on earth.
Beauty fades, but character does not.
I do not look for silver or gold—all I need is a good character.
If we want to be loved, we must not change our good character.
If your character is good, it will return to you.
A man’s wealth is useless if his character is worthless.
