MANILA, Philippines – A revolution is coming to your television screens this summer. Launched March 14, RisingStars Philippines promises to captivate every Saturday night at 10PM. The pilot showed the translation of the game-changing concept into 29 talented finalists who will compete for the live shows to be shown on TV5.
Karaoke singers who have joined through booths found in the mall, schools, and barangays were joined by those who used their personal computers to record their performance via the website, and the hopefuls who utilized the RisingStars Philippines mobile app, available on the Google Play store.
This unique audience engagement has gathered talents from all over the country, with contestants ranging from as young as 13 to as old as being in the mid-40s. During the first four episodes, the performance of the 29 finalists in front of the panel of judges will be shown. From here, they will be narrowed down to the chosen 12.
For the pilot, finalists from Manila, Muntinlupa and Laguna, and the Army were shown. Karl Zarate, Remy Luntayao, and PFC Virna Liza Moreno advanced to the final round. The second episode featured the talented ladies of Iloilo, the entertaining duo from Cebu, and the inspiring stories from Palawan. Three more finalists made it to the live episodes –Samantha Hoberg, Mia Barbra Derilo, and Dave Alcano.
The third episode airing this Saturday (March 28), 10pm on TV5, will pit the regional winners from Bacolod, Cagayan de Oro and Luzon. Jake Diaz from Dagupan and Robert Cozma from Pampanga, Rochelle Ubay-ubay and Mark Laspinas from the city of golden friendship CDO and Bacolod’s Rocelle Jeanne Solquillo, Lee’anna Weber Layumas, and Kurt Phillip Espiritu will strive to earn their place in the finals.
The beloved panel of judges continue to be amazed with the talent and passion being churned out through the competition. Papa Jack exclaims, “It is a privilege to be present here, to be moved by these wonderful performers.”
Soul Siren Nina sees how some of them just have it, “Your ability to show your emotions and feelings through song is really inspiring.”
Jimmy Bondoc says, “It is exciting to know that the next RisingStar is among us, and could be anyone in this room.”
