Long ago, a friend from Citem told me that she had a pretty officemate from Gen San who fell in love with a poor but kind boxer. One evening, I told the same story to the Bulong Pulungan forum attended by then President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, who quipped, “Look where Jinkee is now!”
Recently, a bank got the boxing champion to endorse its services. Last Feb. 27, after taking the pictures of its senior executives, we hurriedly drove to the Pacquiaos’ Cambridge home in Forbes Park and took photos of Manny, who was wearing a pink shirt and his dark gray Louis Vuiton suit.

Manny decided to jog around Cambridge, and I had to jump into an ABS-CBN pickup and tried to shoot from there. When we caught up with the boxer, we got off—only to jump again into a GMA car to take pictures from there!

Life is full of surprises, indeed! The guy who used to be very poor is now thinking of buying a 14-room Beverly Hills mansion formerly owned by Jennifer Lopez. Pacquiao’s story is truly a harbinger of hope for many people. Go, Manny!
