Rachelle Ann Go lends her voice to the new ‘Cinderella’ movie

MANILA, Philippines—Have you been dreaming of a Filipina Cinderella?

Walt Disney Studios Southeast Asia just made your dreams one step closer to reality after choosing celebrated singer and award-winning West End actress Rachelle Ann Go as the main star in the music video of a cherished Disney song.

Go lent her golden voice to the song “A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes,” which Cinderella sang in the 1950 animated film, in line with launch of new live-action feature, “Cinderella.”

Living up to its theme “never stop dreaming,” the ballad was written and composed by Mack David, Al Hoffman and Jerry Livingston.

The music video of “A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes” premieres on Disney Channel and Disney Channel Asia YouTube Channel on Saturday.

Believe in your dreams

According to Disney, they breathed a new life into the song, arranging it afresh, together with its music video so the new “Cinderella” movie’s positive message will get across the audience.

Disney seeks to inspire people to believe in their dreams, be positive and most significantly “Have Courage and Be Kind.”

Fans will be also treated with an extra special segment in the music video, where Rachelle’s mother flew all the way from Manila for a surprise visit during her daughter’s studio recording.

Disney said its decision to cast Go in the music video emboldens the company’s mission “to dream, create and celebrate the most magical stories and adventures, each woven around a relatable, empowered local idol who delights everyone and especially inspires girls to realize their full potential.”

A true princess

Go is seen to animate the heart and life of a Disney princess, coming from her humble beginnings and realizing her childhood dreams.

“We were looking for someone special, not just to sing the song beautifully but to also deliver the message reliably and inspire audiences. We chose Rachelle Ann Go as she embodies the positivity and inspirations of Cinderella, and is a living idol for young Filipinos everywhere who never stopped following her dreams,” said Amit Malhotra, General Manager of Walt Disney Studios, Southeast Asia.

Go was first thrust into limelight after emerging as the grand champion of “Search for a Star”, a singing contest back in 2003 at GMA network.

From then on, the pace of her career has been unstoppable, releasing top-selling albums, staging sold-out concerts, and winning awards in the local and international scene.

With the huge amount of passion and hard work Go pours into her craft, her ultimate dream knocked on her door last year when she was cast to portray the role of Gigi in the West End revival of the musical “Miss Saigon”.

Her unfathomable skill in singing and performing earned her high praise from fans and critics alike, as she received Best Featured Actress and Best Supporting Actress accolades from London award-giving bodies.

Disney’s “Cinderella”, by the British director Kenneth Branagh opens in cinemas nationwide on March 12^th and will also feature the much anticipated short “Frozen Fever” and popular princesses Elsa and Anna.

The movie will also be available in IMAX.
