Christina Perri showcases ‘Head or Heart’ in Manila

MANILA, Philippines—It took her five years to get to Manila, but the wait was worth it, because the 28-year-old “Jar of Hearts” singer did not run around to leave scars during her visit in the country.

Christina Perri played a short but sweet show at the Smart Araneta Coliseum, and this made the 5th day of March worthwhile for her fans.

Perri opened her first ever show in Manila with “Trust,” a track from her second studio album “Head Or Heart,” which according to the singer-songwriter is her favorite. It was followed by “Run” and “Distance,” and then she painted the Big Dome gold with “Burning Gold.”

Before showcasing more of her clear and powerful vocals—and her (for lack of a better word) adorable remarks—through the fourth song “The Words,” Perri talked about how terrifying it is when you’re about to tell someone that you love them but “you don’t know if they love you too.”

But after slowing things down a bit, Perri went back to her fierce self when she introduced the next number as “a song about an a**h*le.” She sweetly apologized for the term, but “there’s just no other way to put it,” she added before belting out “Butterfly.”

She then performed “Arms,” “Lollipop / Lonely Child,” and “Be My Forever.”

Soulful lady

On her 12th song, Perri told the crowd that the most important thing she learned in her journey is “self forgiveness,” and that was what the next song is about—being “Human.”

She then performed “I Believe,” another track that tells people to realize that “This is not the end of me, this is the beginning.”

When she came back on her stage for the encore, she sang a bit of Ed Sheeran’s “Thinking Out Loud,” and then “Penguin” followed.

The people in the crowd, you could say, were holding their breath in while guessing if the next song was the song they have been waiting for.

But Perri was not one to disappoint. She sat by the keys, and then she played the composition that, according to her, changed her life—”Jar of Hearts.” And for the night, she called it her “big fat thank you note” for her Filipino fans.

After a momentous rendition of her hit 2010 track, Perri got back on her feet to perform her final song “I Don’t Wanna Break.”

Somewhere along the show Perri said “I’ve been wanting to come here for five years. My heart is exploding right now. Salamat (Thank you).”

Her fans must be feeling exactly the same way.

Christina Perri’s “Head Or Heart” tour was organized by Midas Promotions.
