MANILA, Philippines—Every year, Inquirer Entertainment helps readers pick a show for that special day, by asking the concert artists to talk about their gigs…and romance.
The Shows:
“Ai Heart Papa”
Ai-Ai de las Alas with Aljur Abrenica and JC de Vera; Feb. 12, 8 p.m., The Theatre at Solaire
“Oo Na! Ako Na Mag-isa! Samahan N’yo Naman Ako!”
Jennylyn Mercado; Feb. 13, 7 p.m., SM North Edsa Skydome; call 4702222
The Interviews:
Which of your love songs do most fans connect with the most, and why do you think that is?
Ai-Ai de las Alas: Well, usually, they don’t really care about my song numbers; what they look forward to are things I will say and my antics. The great thing about doing an intimate Valentine show, especially when it’s not meant to be aired on television, is that you can do and say more. It’s going to have a comedy bar routine vibe.
Jennylyn Mercado: “Kahit Sandali,” from my first album with GMA Records, “Living the Dream.” I’m sure all of us want to spend time with the person we love, even for a while.
What’s the most important thing to remember when doing a Valentine show?
ADA: That the people want to be entertained and to have fun, and you have to give it to them.
JM: To always keep in mind that all aspects of love are celebrated…from the bad to the good.
What’s the sweetest thing a fan has done for you? Has anyone dared to ask you out on a date?
ADA: My boyfriend is the jealous type! But yes, I’ve done shows wherein fans hug me—and they’re hot! My fans are all sweet, and they really chase me at times. One time while at a mall, a mother dragged all her grown-up kids to have a photo taken with me. It was the mother who was the big fan, but the kids had no choice!
JM: None yet. But I find everything they do sweet.
What can we look forward to in your concert?
ADA: There will be a lot of electronic dance music and party songs. But of course there will also be love songs—empowering songs! I will have about eight costume changes, and all of them will be fabulous! And you have to see what I’ll do with Aljur and JC!
JM: Whether you’re single, in a complicated relationship or taken, you’ll be able to relate to this show. If you want something new for a change, watch my show!
