Juliet de Aro, televiewer: “Janice de Belen was a sight to behold when she guested on a talk show recently—thanks to her new hairstyle and apparent weight loss, which made her look years younger. I hope other ‘big’ stars can follow Janice’s lead. It makes me sad to see actresses who are even younger than she is portraying mother roles, just because they’re on the heavy side.”
Other notes:
Jessel Perez, employee: “I’m glad that Kaye Abad has finally been given an important role on ‘Two Wives.’ She has shown promise since her ‘Tabing Ilog’ days.”
Kitch Mallari, televiewer: “Eat your hearts out, GMA 7 and ABS-CBN. I loved channel 9’s coverage of the papal visit more, because there were no hysterical reporters, distracting commentaries and ‘drama’—just factual reporting of what transpired.”
Speech lessons
Yolanda Cataluna, housewife: “Some of our veteran TV newsreaders should take speech lessons. The way they mispronounce words can turn serious and even tragic news into comedy! I have stopped watching early newscasts and now opt to wait for Jessica Soho’s ‘State of the Nation,’ even if it’s shown past my bedtime. Perhaps GMA News TV can move it up an hour earlier?”
Ely Cerujales, teacher: “I’d like to commend some of our news reporters on TV and print for the way they handled the arduous task of asking serious questions at President Aquino’s conference regarding the latest Mindanao crisis. Lei Alviz of GMA 7 was able to generate answers that helped viewers understand what the issue was all about.”
Bem Pasion, OFW: “Erich Gonzales looks radiantly beautiful on television and does fairly well on ‘Two Wives’—but, something has to be done to make her performance more believable and heartfelt.
“I think it has something to do with her not being all that fluent in Tagalog, which is understandable because she’s from Davao. She’s too careful in the way she delivers her lines—and that gets in the way of a good performance.”
