‘Goin’ Bulilit’ stars answer why ‘balut’ sold only at night

MANILA, Philippines–Why is “balut” sold only at night?

Three promising child actors offered answers on why the boiled duck embryo, a Filipino delicacy, is sold only at night in an interview with the Inquirer.

“Goin’ Bulilit” main stars Bugoy Drilon, Clarence Delgado and Mutya Orquia recently sat down with the Inquirer as the show marks its 10th anniversary in February.

“Yung mga tao tulog pa pag umaga. Kapag umaga sumisigaw ng balut, e yung mga tao tulog pa so maingay, so sa gabi nalang (People are still asleep in the morning. If you yell ‘balut’ in the morning, it’s noisy),” Bugoy Drilon said.

Clarence Delgado, on the other hand, said, “Kasi po hilaw pa po sa umaga. Hindi pa po luto e (It’s not yet ripe in the morning because it’s not cooked yet).”

Meanwhile, Mutya Oquia shyly answered, “Kasi wala pa pong nangingitlog. Wala pang sisiw (Because the ducks haven’t laid eggs yet).”

The ABS-CBN gag show, which aired its first episode on February 5, 2005, will be celebrating its 10th anniversary.

Since its pilot episode, “Goin’ Bulilit” has received multiple awards and nominations among different award-giving bodies.
