Mabuhay Restop’s latest musical-comedy revue, Nestor Torre’s “Laugh Out Loud,” had a fun-filled opening at the Rizal Park venue last Dec. 12, and word quickly spread that the intimate performance venue had come up with another hit.
The show’s combination of topnotch musical-theater talents (Andy Bais, Rito Asilo, Melinda Torre, Nadja Matining and Francis Rae Quilantang), hilarious skits and spoofs, and feistily performed novelty and pop tunes enthralled viewers and had them constantly in stitches.
Individual members of the gala performance’s audience each had their favorite skit—variously, they loved the Miss Universe spoof, the 100th Birthday skit, the take-offs and send-ups of TV shows, the tongue-to-cheek tribute to Yoyoy Villame’s ditties—etc.!
Aside from coming up with acclaimed Filipino musical-theater classics like “Magsimula Ka,” “Katy,” “Cory,” “Sino Ka Ba, Jose Rizal?,” “Magnificat” and “Nasaan Si Hesus?,” Torre also whips up scintillating musical-comedy revues, because they provide gifted performers more opportunities to hone their craft and art.
Everytime a performer interacts with a live audience, he learns something from its reactions, so the training is intense and constant, as proven by past “graduates” like Isay Alvarez, Jograd dela Torre, Gigi Posadas, Angelique Lazo, Pinky Marquez, Dulce, Bimbo Cerrudo, Celine Fabie, Beverly Salviejo, Lou Veloso, Christine Carlos, Alana Soriano, Darling de Jesus, Malu de Guzman, Cynthia Patag, Bobby Martino, Aicelle Santos and Belinda Panelo.
And now, with “Laugh Out Loud,” another batch of exceptional actor-singers is making that all-important connection, with the show’s third performance today, Jan. 3. Call Mara Salvacion at 0917 810-8194, (02) 353-8762, (02) 359-2927, e-mail info@mabuhay restops.com, or visit www. mabuhayrestops.com.
