MANILA, Philippines—Unseated Laguna Governor Emilio Ramon “ER” Ejercito will re-enter politics in 2016.
Ejercito, also an actor, was removed from his gubernatorial post when the Commission on Elections (Comelec) found him to have overspent in his campaign in the midterm elections.
In an interview with PEP.ph, Ejercito said he would run for public office again in the 2016 elections.
“Yes, yes, tatakbo at babalik ang agila,” Ejercito told PEP.
In November, the Supreme Court in a unanimous decision upheld the Comelec’s decision ejecting Ejercito from his post after he was found guilty of election overspending during the 2013 midterm elections.
Ejercito is the lead star in the movie Muslim Magnum .357, one of the eight entries in the 40th Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF).
The actor-politician said he did not have enough time to promote his movie because of tight schedule.
“We started late, we started October 28, so we barely had two months to finish the movie,” he said.
“We had to finish it as soon as possible. I had no time to organize a presscon and personally organize the promotion,” he told PEP.
During the opening day of the MMFF on Christmas Day, Ejercito’s Muslim Magnum .357 was lagging behind in the top box office race.
