Beatboxer from Davao tops TV tilt
With an exciting vocal percussion routine that had him mimicking the beats and sounds of electronic dance music tunes, beatboxer Neil Rey Garcia was named “Talentadong Pinoy 2014” ultimate champion during the show’s finals night held recently at Newport Performing Arts Theater.
The Davaoeño performer, who can produce and blend up to eight different beatboxing sounds, bagged the P1-million cash prize, after besting six other flashier acts: aerial dancer Miztiq, poi dancers Bonfire, extreme dance troupe Tazmania, wheelchair dance duo BMG Wheelchair Dancesport, pole-aerial hoops dancer Amaya, and flag-turners Escapade Blazing Color Guards.
The panel of judges was composed of Pilita Corrales, Jaya, Jasmine Curtis-Smith, Cherie Gil, Gelli de Belen, Charice and Richard Gutierrez.
The culminating episode of the TV5 reality talent competition’s fourth season, hosted by couple Robin Padilla and Mariel Rodriguez and comedienne Tuesday Vargas, also featured performances from Jaya, Zendee Rose Tenerefe and Chadleen.
