ABS-CBN Corp., ABS-CBN Film Productions Inc. (Star Cinema) and ABS-CBN International received a judgment recently, for $25 million, in the US Federal Court of Florida against Vonn Ryan Motomal from New Zealand.
Motomal owned more than 90 pirate sites infringing on the copyrights and trademarks of ABS-CBN’s popular TV shows and movies. Under the terms of the judgment, Motomal’s sites will all be transferred to ABS-CBN.
“This is another example of our relentless campaign against piracy. This time, we have found the pirate operating out of Auckland, New Zealand,” shared Elisha Lawrence, ABS-CBN International’s assistant vice president of Global Anti-Piracy.
Among the many pirate sites Motomal owned were pinoy-ako.re, webpinaytambayan.com, pinayshowbiz.com, pinoy-tube.com and watchpinoy24.net.
“This is another instance wherein ABS-CBN pursued a pirate, a content thief—and won!” said ABS-CBN Global COO Raffy Lopez.
ABS-CBN has recently partnered with Crimestoppers. Please call 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or text TIPLA plus your tip to 274637 if you have any information on a pirate site, and you could be eligible for a reward if your information leads to a pirate’s conviction!
