MANILA, Philippines — The family of the late action king Fernado Poe Jr. (FPJ) commemorated his 10th death anniversary Sunday morning at the Manila North Cemetery.
His wife Susan Roces and daughter Senator Grace Poe led the commemoration by hearing Mass at his tomb at the Manila North Cemetery.
FPJ’s former colleagues in the industry attended and paid tribute to the late actor.
Hundreds of fans joined Poe’s family and relatives in marking the occasion.
The senator thanked all who have not forgotten her father who died on Dec. 14, 2004 at age 65.
“I can’t believe it’s been 10 years. I thank the public who continuously remember my father. Thank you very much,” the senator said.
Born in 1939 in Manila, Poe, the “King of Philippine Cinema” or “Da King”, was known for his roles in iconic films including the “Panday” series, which made him a legend in the local film industry.
He ran for president in 2004 against then incumbent Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo but lost amid poll fraud allegations. He died even before his protest could gain ground.
On July 20, 2012, FPJ was declared National Artist for Film.
