Hanging out with Aiko Melendez is always a delight. I love how our friendship has no “show biz” feel at all.

Being nurturing is second-nature to Aiko. She has a way of making you feel that she really gets you.

Turning a year zanier, she will hold a birth anniversary concert on Dec. 16 at The Crowd Bar in Madison Square, Pioneer Street, Mandaluyong, with special guests, her ex Jomari Yllana, her son Andre and friend Richard Gomez.

She is all set to unleash the chanteuse in her. I celebrate all the wonderful things she is.

Here’s my tête-à-tête with Aiko:

What’s your birth anniversary gift to yourself?

Peace of mind. This year wasn’t good so I pray that God will bless me with work and good health next year.

What’s the most important lesson you’ve learned so far?

To rise every time I stumble.

What’s your advice to ex-partners on how they can be friends like you and Jomari?

Consider your kids’ feelings before your own. Your kids have nothing to do with the failure of your marriage. Being friends with your ex will have a positive effect on your kids.

Is there any chance of reconciliation for you and Jom?

Jom and I no longer bother with the question of whether we are good for each other or not. Whoever God will bless me with, I would accept because His plan is always the best.

What’s the latest about your kids?

Andre is already a binata (young man). He is into DJ spinning. Andre and I have a pact that he can only enter show biz after high school. Marthena is my mini-me.

Tell us about your birthday show.

It’s my “me” time. I invited all my friends. It will showcase my journey. I want to share a different side of my personality, which is singing. I am no belter but I sing from the heart.

What don’t people know about you?

People see me as a tough woman. But they don’t know that I cry myself to sleep. I am very emotional. I’m lucky to have met God. This year was my worst but with God, I am still able to see beauty in life.

What kind of guy will make you fall in love again?

A simple guy who would take care of me and have the same faith I have in God.

What’s the best part of being single?

I don’t owe any man an explanation.

What’s the toughest part of being single?

Planning for the future of my kids. Coming to terms with the idea that I may have to face life alone when my kids are grown up.

Ballad of Yeng and Yan

Celebs’ fave “chronicler” of the different milestones in their lives, Nice Print Photo, did the prenup shoot of the next show biz couple to get hitched, Yeng Constantino and Yan Asuncion.

Shot in Thunderbird Resort (La Union), the concept involved “two musicians on the road.”

There were lots of hearts in the pictorial because Yeng loves this symbol of romance. She may be a rocker, but she can be sweet and mushy, too.

They composed a song for their wedding, which they both recorded for their prenup video.

The cool couple met at Victory Church where Yan is part of the song ministry.

Yeng and Yan are each other’s “yin” and “yang.”
