Korean record label takes action vs DOH’s alleged plagiarism—report

MANILA, Philippines – A South Korean record label and talent agency is reportedly taking action against the Department of Health’s (DOH) alleged plagiarism of a K-pop song.

PEP.ph reported on Tuesday that the record label and talent agency SM Entertainment told Korean news sites No Cut News and My Daily that it did not authorize the DOH to use the song “Rum Pum Pum Pum” in its controversial infomercial.

The said infomercial on teenage pregnancy was earlier slammed by netizens for being derogatory and “tactless.”

Some pointed out that the melody of the song was the same as that of the girl group f(x)’s “Rum Pum Pum Pum.”

The cited Korean news agencies reported that the record label will be taking action against the DOH. It said the original publisher of the f(x) song has confirmed that the DOH was guilty of plagiarism.

While the infomercial, which used the phrases “gaga girl (crazy girl)” and “bobo boy (stupid boy),” was already deleted from the DOH’s Facebook page, netizens were able to download and post copies of the video on YouTube.
