Changing for the better

In our world today, we see so much destruction brought about by man’s exploitative attitude. Weather patterns are going awry, typhoons are getting stronger and more unpredictable, water and air are becoming more polluted, and coral reefs and forests are rapidly disappearing. To address this pressing problem, what we need is a change of attitude.

A wise man once explained that we are just transient beings in this world. We are born in it and leave it with nothing. We are of a higher essence – spiritual and eternal. Our essence cannot be withered by the wind, burned by fire, drowned or destroyed in any way, unlike our very temporary bodies.

We are sparks of the Supreme Person, from Whom everyone and everything emanates. This knowledge can help us understand that we don’t own this world. We’re not meant to be the enjoyers and exploiters of other people. Instead, we should be stewards.

Laws

On the second anniversary of “Ondoy,” another typhoon has wreaked so much havoc and destruction in the country. In times like this, we are reminded of nature’s stringent laws – and of the need to stop and think of what we’re doing to the planet. After all, we’re just part of this web of life!

We’re merely caretakers of this world we live in, so we must learn to live according to the laws of nature, not against them!
