Maxene Magalona is taking a long break from love. “I jumped from one relationship to another. I didn’t realize that I should take care of myself first,” the 28-year-old told reporters during a press conference for “Dream Dad,” her first show as an ABS-CBN artist.

She broke up with non-show biz boyfriend Chino Capuyoc in June. “Love life? Zero,” she said. “I’m very much single … Now I know that, for me to be truly happy, I should love myself more. My career is my priority because I owe that to myself. I should be more focused now that I’m much older.”

The daughter of the late rapper Francis Magalona recently transferred to ABS-CBN. She was a GMA 7 talent for many years. “Dream Dad,” premieres on Nov. 24.

She decided to work with ABS-CBN, she said, because “I wanted to grow as an artist. I hope to portray new roles and work with other actors.”

Present focus

Asked if she might try working in other networks, Maxene said, “I’m focusing on my stay in ABS-CBN, but work is work. If the project is good, I’ll do it.”

Maxene related her experience of working on a Kapamilya set for the first time: “I was nervous and excited at the same time. I started to relax when I remembered that it was best to just be myself.”

Easy to work with

She added, “I’m easy to get along with. I welcome every chance to meet new people because I learn a lot from them.”

“Dream Dad” features 5-year-old Jana Cassandra Agoncillo as lead actress, as well as Zanjoe Marudo, Beauty Gonzalez, Yen Santos, Gloria Diaz, Tirso Cruz III, Ariel Ureta, Katya Santos, among others. The series is under the direction of Jeffrey Jeturian.
