New phase for Cinemalaya?

“PURE LOVE.” Unique touch.

“PURE LOVE.” Unique touch.

Nemia Vidal, film enthusiast: “The buzz is that next year’s Cinemalaya will be sponsored by the Quezon City government. That’s commendable, because it assures financial backing for the indie festival. But, grandstanding politicians shouldn’t be allowed to tamper with its vaunted indie spirit—unless we want another commercial endeavor like the Metro Manila Film Festival!”

Other notes:

Meanne Mijares, events planner: “The remake of the Korean TV series, ‘Pure Love,’ is satisfying. Its unique touch includes instilling Filipino values in its storytelling. It was great to see fresh faces with fine acting potential, to boot.”

Casting agents

Dindo Serafin, call center agent: “Paging casting agents: It’s tiring to see the same actor appearing in three films in the same film festival—which should have been named in his ‘honor,’ instead! Worse, you see the same look, acting style, etc. Nakakainis!”

Jocelyn Aliban, accountant: “I agree with a recent item in this section suggesting a Carla Abellana and Christian Bautista tandem. Carla is refined, while Christian is the epitome of a true gentleman. Repartee between them would be something to look forward to.”

Dan Flores, employee: “Being Visayan, I’m always thrilled to watch a Cebuano film on the big screen, especially if it’s as well-made and well-acted as Remton Siega Zuasola’s Cinema One entry, ‘Soap Opera.’”
