The Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) has launched the “Climate Change Scriptwriting Contest.”

Screenwriters are urged to “focus on aspects of climate change for either a short feature script or a full-length documentary script,” according to a statement from the FDCP. Deadline for submissions is on Dec. 19, at 2 p.m.

Two sets of committee judges will decide on the winners—one panel per category. The jurors will be revealed when all entries are in, the statement said. Results will be announced in January 2015.

Cash prizes for winners in the full-length documentary category: P100,000, first place; P50,000, second place; P25,000, third place.

“With the recent catastrophic storms in the country, climate change has made its presence felt more than ever,” said the FDCP statement.

The council promised to provide financial grants to the winning entries for their production into either a short feature (10 to 20 minutes) or a full-length documentary (at least 40 minutes).

Seed amounts will be P150,000 each for the three short feature productions and P500,000 each for the three full-length docus.

The winning short feature or full-length documentary will be shown during the World Premieres Film Festival Philippines in June 2015. Check the FDCP website (www.fdcp.ph) for more information.
