Daniel Padilla’s mom fails to turn a chair on ‘The Voice PH’

MANILA, Philippines — Karla Estrada, the mother of teen heartthrob Daniel Padilla, auditioned but failed to turn a chair on the “The Voice of the Philippines” Season 2.

None of the four coaches led by Tony Award winner Lea Salonga, pop star Sarah Geronimo, rock singer Bamboo Mañalac, and “Black Eyed Peas” member apl.de.ap. turned a chair for Estrada when she sang “What’s Up” by 4 Non Blondes. Her audition aired Saturday night.

After her performance, Salonga came up the stage and hugged Estrada and told her that her son Daniel is “adorable.” Geronimo also gave Estrada a hug.

Asked on why she joined “The Voice,” Estrada said that she has been joining singing contests since she was nine-years-old.

“Katuparan sa mga pangarap ng mga kontesera (fulfillment of every contestants’ dreams), right?” Estrada added.

Salonga said that although Estrada was good, she said they were looking for a voice that is “indescribable.”

“We’re looking for (a voice) that is indescribable, where you will be forced to jump up from your seat and push the button,” Salonga told Estrada.

Mañalac affirmed Salonga’s statement and said that it was admirable for Estrada to join the singing contest.

Meanwhile, Geronimo lauded Estrada’s “inspiring” audition, adding that it only shows her passion for music has never waned.

Apl.de.ap gave Estrada a rose and said that she was the “guest superstar of the night.”

Estrada said her children did not know she auditioned for the show.

She is a singer and actress who starred in recent drama series on ABS-CBN such as “Jim Fernandez’s “Galema Anak ni Zuma” and “Kailangan Ko’y Ikaw.”
