Parents in Parañaque City can now have peace of mind even while they work, knowing that their children have access to information and guidance regarding age-appropriate and audience-sensitive television programs.
The Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) recently inked a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the local government of Parañaque to hold activities of the ratings board’s “Matalinong Panonood para sa Pamilya nina Juan at Juana” media literacy campaign there.
MTRCB Chairman Eugenio Villareal and Parañaque City Mayor Edwin Olivarez led the signing of the MOU, which will allow the MTRCB to hold seminars and workshops for Parañaque City residents, especially families and the youth.
Villareal said Parañaque is the “first city to officially embrace the MTRCB’s campaign for discerning viewership and audience-sensitivity for its citizens.”
The first such seminar-workshop was conducted right after the signing, reported Villareal. Olivarez, Vice-Mayor Jose Enrico Golez, councilors Ryan Yllana and Wahu Sotto, and 1st District Rep. Eric Olivarez were present at the event.
MTRCB members Eric Mallonga, Gaby Concepcion, Tony Veloso, Jackie Gavino, Cecilia Nubla, Jay Revistir and Gladys Reyes conducted the seminar-workshop.
Significant sectors
That same day, the MTRCB chief gave a talk on the ratings system and the board’s campaign for the protection of women, children, PWDs (persons with disabilities) and other significant sectors in media and entertainment at the Malinta National High School in Valenzuela City.
With the theme “iCommunicate: Promoting Good Values and Responsible Use of Media,” the talk was in partnership with the Institute of Communication at the Colegio de San Juan de Letran-Manila.
The event was followed by the opening of an “MTRCB-inspired media awareness exhibit” for the students of Malinta High School. It was organized by students of Letran’s Institute of Communication.
