Extreme addictions: It takes all kinds
To attract jaded televiewers looking for “extreme” viewing fare, TV shows are trying to top each other on point of uniqueness—or downright weirdness.
One of the weirdest and most far-out TV programs we’ve caught on the twisty and twerky tube of late is Fox channel’s “My Strange Addiction.”
The telecast we caught recently featured a young woman with a really unconventional and unexpected addiction. No, she wasn’t a drunkard, drug addict, sex slave or any of those “traditionally quirky” things. She was addicted to eating—eye makeup?
That’s right, her daily diet consisted of generous helpings of eye shadow of every kind and color, which she enjoyed so much that she would spend hundreds of dollars each week to satisfy her really strange craving.
To her credit, she knew that her food fixation was weird, and probably even unhealthy, since all sorts of chemical products are used in the production of makeup. But she simply couldn’t help it—that’s what being an addict means, right?

So, what would it be?

It was at this point that the TV feature took on an even weirder aspect, because it was revealed that her mother had a problematic fetish of her own, which had probably primed the young addict to love ingesting makeup.
No, her mom didn’t fancy eating makeup—but, she liked putting baby powder on her donuts! Not as extreme as her daughter’s case, but pretty strange too, right?
In any case, mom did urge her daughter to see a doctor and he had her take a series of tests that showed that she had indeed put her health in jeopardy with her weird, far-out food preference—so, remedies have been put in place and things are looking up!
Another addiction tackled on the show involved a young man who was so determined to look like his idol, Justin Bieber, that he had undergone many surgical procedures in his effort to pass himself off as a Xerox copy of The Bieb!
In addition, he had spent a lot of money on a Bieber-like wardrobe, shoes, accessories and hairstyle, just to enhance the illusion created by his surgical makeover.
And what was the outcome of all his efforts? The show took Bieber’s clone to a bar for singles and a number of young women were asked if he reminded them of somebody famous.
Alas, nobody screamed “Justin Bieber!” right off the bat! In fact, it took a number of follow-up questions before somebody finally connected him with the fave teen idol.
This particular feature reminds us of the time when, on local TV, we saw a Pinoy
tisoy whose mission in life was to look, as much as possible, like his hero, Superman! He, too, had had a number of surgical procedures performed on him to achieve his objective.
“My Strange Addiction” should feature him as well, don’t you think? It really does take all kinds!
