JM de Guzman on the comeback trail

Thea Ortiz, nursing student: “I was saddened when JM de Guzman left the show biz scene some years ago, especially at a time when everything was coming up roses for him. He was reportedly sidelined by a stormy love life that led to more serious problems.

“Fortunately, JM is back, starring in another indie, this time for the Cinema One Originals festival, and acting in TV soaps. Here’s hoping that he has learned his life lessons well.”

DE GUZMAN. Life lessons.

Other notes:

Rene Catubig, televiewer: “There isn’t a lot to laugh about in our television gag shows. ‘Bubble Gang’ still hits its mark from time to time, but it wastes much of its airtime. What’s the problem? Some comedians are overstaying their welcome. ABS-CBN used to have a talent search for new comedians. How about reviving that show and discovering fresh and outstanding new talents?”

Len Marchan, teacher: “A reminder for stars who accept assignments as host for special events: Review your spiels several times to make sure you deliver the lines correctly and not experience the online bashing that Jessy Mendiola recently went through when she hosted the UAAP Cheerdance competition and mispronounced words like ‘pleyks’ for plaques (of appreciation) and ‘adieu’ for ado (as in no further ado). When unsure of how words are properly pronounced, consult your knowledgeable friends—or simply Google them!”

Joy Aday, student: “Thank you for an item in this section suggesting ‘The Voice Kids’’ Darren Espanto as a possible teleserye theme singer. His voice will be a welcome addition to the likes of Lani Misalucha, Jed Madela, Erik Santos and Angeline Quinto.”

Jun Legaspi, businessman: “Whatever happened to the movie career of Martin Escudero? He was memorable in ‘Zombadings,’ and I expected him to soar higher after that. He isn’t even in the sequel of Wenn Deramas’ ‘Moron 5.’”
