Selfie, selfie on the cell, who’s the vainest of them all?
The word “selfie” was chosen “Salita ng Taon” (Word of the Year) by the Filipinas Institute of Translation, Inc. (FIT) during the Sawikaan Pambansang Kumperensiya sa Wika.
“Selfie” was nominated and defended by filmmaker Jose Javier Reyes and talent manager Noel Ferrer. It bested 12 other words that vied for the distinction.
Rightfully so! After all, Pinoys are true-blue “selfieholics”!
I asked different celebs to share their dream selfies. Mine would be with George Clooney in one of his villas in Europe. What’s yours?
The nice thing about selfies is that you can just strike a pose and nobody will oppose.
Say cheese!
Dennis Trillo
I’d like to have a selfie on top of a pyramid in Giza with Legendary Times magazine publisher, Giorgio A. Tsoukalos. He’s a regular in the TV show “Ancient Aliens.”
John Estrada
I would love to have selfies with Scarlett Johansson and Jennifer Lawrence—with Johnny Depp as photo bomber—on a yacht in Santorini.
Gabby Concepcion
I’d take a selfie with Morgan Freeman, while we’re surrounded by wild animals in Africa.
Karylle
It would be with Pope Francis. He’s so amazing. I hope to take that selfie with him when he visits Manila next year. He has standees in churches now. He’s the perfect Pope for the modern times.
Yael Yuzon
I want to get off the ride and take a selfie with Harold, the abominable snowman from Disneyland’s Matterhorn!
Jed Madela
My dream selfie is onstage, in the middle of a sold-out concert at the O2 Arena in London, with Beyoncé beside me.
Suzi Entrata-Abrera
I’d strike a pose with Julia Roberts on Rodeo Drive, where she filmed many of the scenes in her movie “Pretty Woman.”
Mark Herras
My ultimate selfie would be with Anne Hathaway kissing me on the cheek in Amsterdam.
Baron Geisler
It would be with Jennifer Lawrence at the Louvre Museum or Chateau de Versailles, as we stroll and enjoy the scenery together. She’s a fun-loving girl so the possibility of us making weird, dorky faces on our selfies is huge.
Aljur Abrenica
My dream selfie is with Ariana Grande, while we are sky diving.
Tattoo time
Longtime event presenter, Tribal Gear (TG) celebrated its 25th year at “Dutdutan 14.”
The annual event that gathers ink masters from all over the world was held on Sept. 26 and 27 at the World Trade Center.
Spotted at “Dutdutan 14” was TG founder Bobby Ruiz, surrounded by the best tattoo artists in the international scene: Big Tiny of Unauthorized Ink, Sal Elias of 3 Foot Radius Tattoo and Dago Dane of Dago Tattoo.
TG brought in a slew of showstoppers to add excitement to the event.
Audiences grooved as the American band Hed PE, a.k.a. Planet Earth, gave everyone a dose of “G-punk.”
Also mounted were the fiercest dance-off ever “G2G,” various tattoo competitions, Miss Dutdutan Pin-up Girl, FHM’s Bikini Contest, Drum Duel, URCC Rage in the Cage and an intense rock concert headlined by Wolfgang, Urbandub, Kamikazee and other bands. POD drummer Noah “Wuv” Bernardo jammed with the Drum Duel’s grand winner, too.
Tat’s inkredible!
