140827_MariahCarey_01MANILA, Philippines—Mariah Carey kicked off her much talked-about concert tour “The Elusive Chanteuse Show” in Tokyo, Japan last Saturday but some fans expressed disappointment after the diva allegedly sounded off-key and failed to hit her signature high notes.

Videos from Carey’s concert, which circulated over the Internet, showed that the singer seemed to struggle while belting some of her monster hits such as “Always Be My Baby,” “My All,” and “Hero.”

Carey also encountered a technical issue when the butterfly decal of her microphone broke while singing “We Belong Together.” She attempted to continue with the number but said, “Wait a minute. I can’t hold on”.

According to British newspaper The Daily Mail, a representative from Carey’s camp said that they have only received good feedback from the fans.

“The comments we have heard from the fans have been great!” said an unidentified representative of Carey.

Carey performed 23 songs during the premiere show in Tokyo.

“The Elusive Chanteuse Show” will be an 18-date tour across Asia, Australia, and New Zealand. Carey is set to perform in the Philippines at the Mall of Asia Arena on October 28.

Her latest album, Me. I Am Mariah…The Elusive Chanteuse, sold only 58,000 copies on its first week.
