Glamorous villainess

CONCEPCION. Believable portrayal.

CONCEPCION. Believable portrayal.

Ariel Yap-Reyes, visual merchandising consultant: “KC Concepcion is very effective playing a villainess in ‘Ikaw Lamang.’ I’m not a fan, but I am impressed with KC’s believable portrayal. She was out of the limelight for almost a year to study acting abroad, and it paid off big time. Like Cherie Gil, she’s a glamorous kontrabida!”

Other notes:

Rene Bautista, medical technologist: “I haven’t been seeing Kyla lately. I hope she gets more singing projects because it’s such a waste if her exceptional talent isn’t put to good use. She is one of the finest singers we have!”

Ace Lennon Babasa, televiewer: “I watched with dismay the first week’s telecasts of ‘Don’t Lose The Money,’ hosted by Tom Rodriguez. He was overenthusiastic and tried to project his good looks and charm, upstaging the contestants. He needs to be more subtle to put contestants at ease.”

Veronica Paredes-Ulanday, optometrist: “Just read the comment of Jenny Molino on Angeline Quinto in this section last week, and I agree with what she wrote. Angeline’s birits have become painful to hear. Some singers think that birit proves they’re good—it doesn’t.”

Anna Lozada, housewife: “Star Cinema should be commended for releasing the Cinemalaya entries, ‘Hari ng Tondo’ and ‘The Janitor’—which guarantees them a wider reach. Other indies that should be released commercially include ‘Mariquina’ and ‘Children’s Show.’”

Darwin Parong, student: “It looks like the Philippines has a fighting chance in Lav Diaz’s ‘Norte, Hangganan ng Kasaysayan’ in the Foreign Language category of the Oscars. The film has won a number of awards internationally.”

Linda Zamora, mall department manager: “I’m happy to see Rachelle Ann Go blossom, from singing tilt winner to fine musical-theater actress in ‘Miss Saigon.’ Her rendition of ‘Movie in my Mind’ at the musical’s gala night with Lea Salonga (which I saw on the Internet) was moving and heartfelt. —Splendid job!”
