New strategies in water management.

RIVERA

Recent news reports have warned us about an imminent water shortage in Metro Manila.  Some of the reasons for our “dry  future” include lack of new water sources, climate change and urbanization.

But, Virgilio Rivera Jr., the Manila Water Company’s director for corporate strategy and development, treats these  as challenges that can be mitigated through new strategies in water management—which are discussed in his book, “Tap Secrets.” You read that right: “tap,” as in tap water.

Rivera discloses the practical steps taken by Manila Water to guarantee efficient water service for its consumers. The company’s three secrets: enable, empower and excel.

MWSS is the government’s corporate arm mandated to provide water and sewerage services to the public. Through the public-private partnership (PPP) program, it awarded two concession contracts to the private sector—the Ayala-led Manila Water (for the east sector) and Maynilad Water Services (for the west).

At the recent Bulong Pulungan media forum, Rivera said that Manila Water is developing new leaders who will be at the helm of the water sector. He also reassured us that the company is committed to provide its clients with clean and safe water.
