MANILA, Philippines—Lav Diaz’s acclaimed 4-hour opus, “Norte, Hangganan ng Kasaysayan (North, End of History)” is the Philippine entry to next year’s Oscars for the Best Foreign Language Film category, producer-actor Moira Lang confirmed on Wednesday.
The good news to the local film community was earlier announced by Film Academy of the Philippines head Leo Martinez.
“Norte” recently had a two-week run in selected venues in Metro Manila. It is now being shown in key cities in the provinces.
It had won awards for best film here and abroad.
Led by Sid Lucero, Perry Dizon, Angeli Bayani, Archie Alemania, “Norte” is co-written by Diaz and acclaimed playwright-scriptwriter Rody Vera.
