Plotting surprises keep viewers on tenterhooks

ALONZO (TOP) AND DANTES. Attention-calling “shock tactics.”

Last Wednesday (Sept. 17), we stayed glued to our TV set until 11 p.m., and we’re sure glad we did, because we were able to catch the concluding highlights of a number of shows down to their “last two minutes” of telecasting. Many of the drama series we watched came up with attention-calling “shock tactics” that had viewers switching channels during commercial breaks, to see what plotting surprises the other series had in store for viewers on just that one, particularly “eventful” viewing and telecasting day:

On “My Destiny,” Tom Rodriguez finally and heatedly confronted Carla Abellana on her impending nuptial date with Sid Lucero’s character. At that point, Tom still didn’t know what the show’s regular viewers did—that the child Carla was bearing in her womb was his, not Sid’s.

Imagine how shocked and hyper-angry both he and Sid would be when this is finally revealed to them!? —And, minus 40 points for Carla’s character for timorously keeping that all-important “detail” to herself!

On “Hawak-Kamay,” the plotting “highlights” and complications are really coming in a frenetic frenzy: Piolo Pascual’s half-sibling, JM de Guzman, has hired goons to beat Piolo up because he has refused to agree to the sale of his mother’s house.

Love child

Their dad, Tirso Cruz III, has also been beaten up—and robbed. And Bernard Palanca, the father of Iza Calzado’s love child, tries to force Iza to agree to his brutish wish for them to resume their romantic relationship! To top it all, JM falls for Nikki Gil, who “just happens” to be Piolo’s ex—and she wants to resume their romantic relationship, but Piolo now loves Iza!

Not to be outdone, on “Ang Dalawang Mrs. Real,” Dingdong Dantes’ dad, Jaime Fabregas, finally expires after a heart attack, rendering his wife, Coney Reyes, grief-stricken—and mad as heck at everybody, especially Tommy Abuel, who had a fight with Fabregas—and even her son, Dingdong, because it was his illicit love relationship with Tommy’s daughter, Lovi Poe, that ruined all of their lives!

For her part, Tommy’s wife, Susan Africa, had an accident, and she was forced to hand Dingdong and Lovi’s love child over to—of all people, Dingdong’s legit wife, Maricel Soriano, who had to babysit the embodiment and physical proof of her weakling-husband’s duplicity!

Now, that particular dramatic “moment” was really one for the books—how would the concluding series be able to top that amazing image?

Finally, on “Sana Bukas Pa Ang Kahapon,” Bea Alonzo and Eddie Garcia are close to unmasking the mysterious villain who ordered the killing of some of the series’ lead characters—and Paulo Avelino now strongly intuits that “Emmanuelle” is actually “Rose” in cosmetically induced replacement—! Up next: the concluding, all-out confrontation between Bea and Maricar Reyes/Dina Bonnevie. —We can hardly wait!
