The women of Hermes Alegre
Women dominate his paintings—in various incarnations and moods, both dressed and undressed. They are the embodiment of the eternal, the ethereal Filipina.
From afar, the women of Hermes may seem gracious and graceful, even docile. But their eyes are filled with mystery and draw the beholder in with their unfathomable depth and meaning.
Multiawarded Hermes Alegre has done more than 10 solo shows and a number of group exhibits. He makes it a point to stay connected to Bicol, drawing his strength and stability from his family and place of birth. Catch “Horse Power,” an art show with 13 artists (all about horses) at LRI Art Gallery, LRI Design Plaza, 210 Nicanor Garcia St., Bel Air II, Makati City, till Sept. 17, Monday to Saturday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
