MANILA, Philippines—The heart-thumping music they bring to stage is more than enough reason to attract people to come and see their shows. But at times, it’s also worthwhile knowing these electronic musicians beyond their mixtapes.
Jochen Miller and KhoMha
Trance DJ Jochen Miller hails from the Netherlands and he is someone who enjoys the Asian crowd a lot. Asked how he found the people’s reception when he first went to Manila, Miller said he had no expectations at first. But he realized that the “Asian crowd is always good.” “Manila is also good,” he added.
Meanwhile, DJ KhoMha is a Colombian DJ who listens to all types of music and is someone who’s always up for the challenge of creating unique tracks.
Getting to know them more
Miller and KhoMha played together for the first time during Innovation White 2014 in Manila.
Asked if there is a possibility for them to collaborate after this, KhoMha was quick to answer that “that is a good option.”
But when both were given the opportunity to share what makes their music distinct from the rest, Miller answered that his “thing” is to “play [with] a lot of energy and great melodies.” Putting smiles on the faces of his listeners is also one of his goals whenever he plays his sets.
For Miller, sharing the music is the most important thing whenever he does a show.
KhoMha on the other hand is one who draws inspiration from all genres he listens to, even the sound of water while in the shower is a source of creativity for the Colombian musician. He is also highly influenced by Latin music.
Highlight and inspiration
Playing before 2,000 people in his hometown is the highlight of 2014 for Miller, while for KhoMha, the 4,000 to 5,000 people who came to see him in a local show is the most unforgettable for him this year.
Asked to talk about their inspiration in music production, Miller said: “Inspiration comes when it comes, when you’re in a plane or travelling or a nice view… It’s really hard to say.”
For KhoMha, being different is what’s most important. “I like to listen to everything,” he said, “their music [music of other artists] has always something beautiful to give you, no matter what genre it is.”
The Innovation White 2014 party was brought to the Philippine audience by BigFish Manila.
