MANILA, Philippines –The anti-pork barrel rally on Monday may be for a serious cause, but it did not stop a popular rock band from providing some entertainment.

Kamikazee, known for its electrifying music and goofy antics, surprised the unsuspecting protesters and performed some of their hits in the anti-pork barrel rally in Luneta Park.

Frontman Jay Contreras admitted that the despite the band’s ludicrous image, it is also updated with national issues.

“Kahit mukha kaming masasamang tao, nagiisip naman kami. Mababait kaming mamamayan,” he said.

(Even if we look like bad people, we can think. We’re good citizens.)

Political satirist Mae Paner, also known as Juana Change, after the group’s performance, said that the band has always participated in anti-pork barrel protests.

“Sa dami ng mga artista na nagrerepresenta sa adbokasiyang ito, ang Kamikazee ang isa sa mga talagang aktibo,” she said.

(Of all the artists who represent our advocacy, Kamikazee is one of those who are really active.)

The event, held one year after the Million People March, aims to collect six million signatures to form a people’s initiative against the pork barrel system.
