Candlelight vigil marks 37 years after Elvis death

MEMPHIS— Fans of Elvis Presley are making a night time candlelit walk past his gravesite at Graceland during a memorial of his death 37 years ago.

Devotees of the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll participate each year in a vigil on the anniversary of his death. Presley died at age 42 on Aug. 16, 1977, of a heart attack in Memphis, Tennessee.

Fans strolled quietly Friday through the Mediation Garden at Graceland, Presley’s longtime home.

The vigil is a highlight of Elvis Week, an annual celebration of Presley’s career and life.
