The “Protégé” singing tilt has taken on a strange coloration: Last September 18’s telecast showed a number of singers “forum-shopping,” as it were – they auditioned for different celebrity mentors in various parts of the country!
Even more strangely, the weird gambit did the trick for two of them – turned down at one or two auditions, they eventually found mentors who were so impressed by their singing that they tapped them as their proteges!

The most promising comer in the biz this month is lissome and vocally gifted Zia Quizon, whose performing genes are as fine as they can get: Her mother is ZsaZsa Padilla, and she calls the Dolphy dad.
Zia’s debut album has just come out. We first appreciated her overall performing promise when she was featured in a TV tribute to Dolphy. In that first exposure, she came across as a thoroughly captivating combination of her stellar parents’ best suits – but, also as her own person.
In an industry where many stars’ scions lazily live off their celebrity parents’ reflected glory, Zia’s unique “independence” should be encouraged – and celebrated!
